About Shaukat Siddiqui

From Khuda Ki Basti to Al-Fath

Born on March 20, 1923, Shaukat Siddiqi rose to prominence as both a novelist and a journalist. His literary work, especially Khuda Ki Basti, became one of Urdu’s most influential novels, published over 50 times and adapted for television. Yet, Siddiqi’s journalism was equally impactful, especially during the 1970s, when Pakistan was under martial law.

A committed progressive thinker, his writings highlighted the oppression of workers, the role of state censorship, and the decline of civil liberties. He was not just a writer — he was a chronicler of the truth.
